These Herbs have traditionally been used in some of the following ways:
Alfalfa -- traditionally regarded as an important plant-based galactagogue known for stimulating breast milk production.
Chamomile - is soothing, calming, and helps those experiencing stress or restlessness, and their breastfeeding babies
Fennel Seed, Fenugreek & Blessed Thistle - have been traditionally used to increase milk production and settle digestion of mom & baby.
“Nourishing herbs, such as raspberry leaves,...oatstraw, and red clover blossoms—prepared as strong infusions*, taken in pills, capsules, tinctures, or teas—not only encourage a plentiful supply of breast milk; they also support the overall health of mother and child. The minerals in these herbs are amazingly abundant, so they counter mineral loss from nursing, and help keep mom calm and alert during those first few weeks of round-the-clock infant care.“ — Susun Weed Herbalist
Lemon Balm - a nervine used as far back as the Middle Ages to help calm mothers and babies by reducing stress and anxiety, promoting sleep, improving appetite, and easing pain
Nettle Leaf - native to much of the world, nettles have long been used to support milk production as well as supporting blood building post birth
Shatavari - an Ayurvedic tonic that helps to support the female hormonal system, including breast milk production, menopause, and women’s reproductive system. In traditional Ayurveda, Shatavari has been described as absolutely safe for long term use, even during pregnancy and lactation. There are some practices which do not recommend Shatavari during the first trimester as not enough research has been done to study the effects of Shatavari during pregnancy. As always, it is best to consult your midwife or doctor if you are pregnant and considering consuming Shatavari.
